New Team Leader at Taree

Belinda Tullipan has been with Home Nursing Group since March 2017 and quickly found her feet and excelled within the aged care profession. She has recently received a promotion to Team Leader at the Taree based office.

Her two years with Home Nursing Group has proved to be a very positive and inspiring career progression for Belinda. After completing her studies at TAFE, Belinda needed something flexible and rewarding to fit in with her life.

We interviewed Belinda to find out more about both her professional and personal life, what inspired her to work in aged care, and what she loves about her work.

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born in Sydney and grew up in Taree. My family moved here when I was about two. I now live by the beach, only twenty minutes from Taree. It is the best place on earth!

How did you come about to work with Home Nursing Group?

I had completed my Certificate III in Individual Support, specialising in Aged Care at Taree TAFE. When I finished, I decided to spend the Christmas holidays with my children and it gave me the time to think about where I wanted to be, and what direction to go in.

I always gravitated towards community care and decided to apply for a few different jobs online. I saw a job advertised by Home Nursing Group on Facebook that a friend had shared, so I hopped online to their website to research the company and it looked great, I liked what I saw!

I applied for the role as an Assistant In Nursing (AIN) and was feeling excited because I felt Home Nursing Group was definitely where I wanted to be.

What were you doing before you worked at Home Nursing Group?

Prior to Home Nursing Group I worked for Coles Supermarkets as a Supervisor and a Checkout Operator. So, I had plenty of previous experience in customer service and people management.

My husband also has his own business and I assist with the administration side of things from home.

I was also helping to take care of my Dad who had Dementia and that is essentially what got me into the aged care sector.

What do you love about working for Home Nursing Group?

I love working for Home Nursing Group because they are very supportive, and they feel like family. They have the same strong set of values that I was brought up on. It’s important to me that my personal values align with my job, otherwise you can’t love what you do.

The people that make up Home Nursing Group are real and passionate in everything they do.

How has Home Nursing Group supported you in your role?

I have been very well supported in my role as an AIN out in the field, there was always someone to talk to if I needed advice. I have also received on-going training within my role.

I was recently successful in securing the position of Team Leader based in the Taree office. I have been surrounded with a lot of support from different areas of the business as I transitioned from Field Care staff, to Team Leader.

What is the most important thing you’ve learnt from your roles within the home care/aged care industry?

It’s great to be able to put into place all the knowledge from when I studied, plus learn new skills along the way. Every day I learn something new.

Now as a Team Leader I bring knowledge and experience that enables me to support my team better out in the field, so they can support the clients in their homes and deliver exceptional care.

Do you have a ‘Carers Tip’, or anything that you would share with someone starting out in the field?

You must be adaptable. Every person is different, every home is different, and everyone’s needs are different.

Be aware of your situation always. Anything can happen out in the field and no day is ever the same.

Time management is very important, as well as looking after yourself.  Don’t be afraid to ring when you are not sure about something, there is always someone there to help.

What advice would you give to people thinking of becoming a Care Worker for the elderly?

My advice would be to learn as much as you can. Treat the clients how you would like to be treated. Take the time to listen to them, be patient, kind and always respectful.

What are your passions in life?

Spending time with my family, hanging out at the beach and most importantly, looking after myself the best I can. We all need time to ourselves.

Do you have anything else to add?

I can honestly say that love my job!

Home Nursing Group are looking for like-minded people to join our team and help provide exceptional in-home care. If you share our values of trust, respect, empathy, accountability and teamwork, we’d love to hear from you.
