Commonwealth Home Support Programme
You want to remain independent, living life in your own home, but may need some help with daily care or tasks around the home. Our Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) program can help you achieve just that.
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides services that support older people to stay at home and be more independent in the community. Services include Domestic Assistance, Social Support and Respite Care.
The services you receive will be based entirely on your needs, and are flexible enough to change over time as your requirements change.
Domestic Assistance helps clients with domestic tasks, including:
- Cleaning
- Dishwashing
- Clothes washing and ironing
- Changing linen and towels
Social Support assists a client to participate in community life. Activities include:
- Visiting services
- Telephone based monitoring services
- Assisting the person with shopping and other errands
- Transport to your favourite weekly activity
Respite Care is support for you and your carers. Home Nursing Group can offer:
- Respite Care for a few hours, days or longer periods.
- Much needed breaks, reassurance and an enhanced quality of life for both the client and carer.
- The carer may or may not be present during the delivery of the service.
Availability of services subject to funding.
Are you eligible?
CHSP services are right for you if you are:
- 65 years or older, or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person over 50 years of age.
- Still living at home and want to continue living in your home.
- Worried that if you don’t get some help at home you may need to look at alternative care before you are ready.
The Australian Government subsidises CHSP. In addition, you will be asked to contribute towards the cost of your care. The amount of your contribution is determined by your financial status and is modest.
